Socialist Media Outlets
Discover the power of socialist media with this comprehensive guide. In general, socialist outlets include those outlets that incorporate a Marxist understanding of economics and wealth distribution. So learn how to find these outlets and connect with like-minded individuals to effect change.
Media outlets include newspapers, podcasts, radio and tv. However, no contemporary assessment would be complete without also examining social media sites.
Socialist media also includes social media platforms used to promote socialist ideals and connect with others who share those beliefs. Consequently, we will explore the capacity of these outlets to effect change and connect with like-minded individuals. Two political organisations that produce content in this space are Socialist Alliance and Socialist Alternative.
Socialist Alternative Australia
Socialist Alternative produce quality leftist news and commentary.
In Australia, Socialist Alternative produce the newspaper Red Flag delivered to your door or inbox each month, with 10 issues per year (see below). They also produce Red flag Radio podcasts giving you a comprehensive review on the news. We have found Red Flag Radio to be the best contemporary critique of contemporary Australian politics.
Socialist Alliance
Socialist Alliance’s media masthead is the Green Left Newspaper. The Green Left aim is to both help build movements of resistance and build an anti-capitalist political alternative. The goal of Green Left is not only to expose the lies, hypocrisy and bias of the billionaire class and their media: but to help the organising efforts of all those actively resisting the increasingly authoritarian rule of the corporate rich, here and overseas.
Socialist Alliance also have a podcast. Their Green Left Podcasts have loads of information and interesting guests.
Socialist Podcasts (International)
Revolutionary left outlets are those outlets that have an uncompromising commitment to implementing neo-Marxist economic policies that re-distribute wealth. Indeed some of those active in the socialist media have embraced podcasting. These Socialist Podcasts promote an overthrow of the existing order through revolution. This is achieved by organising the working class to rise up and seize control.
Socialist ideology embraces solidarity and collectivism. Formerly, back biting, bickering and factional infighting has undermined the socialist project many times in history. However, we express solidarity with other socialists and encourage you to support the socialist media on the below podcasts.

Socialist Newspapers
If you’re looking for news and analysis from a socialist media perspective, there are a number of publications that can provide you with the information you need. From in-depth reporting to opinion pieces and analysis, there are a number must-read socialist newspapers to keep you informed.
However, paper editions of many publications are becoming less in number, as readers embrace the online world. Red Flag for example, is one left wing newspaper that has a website and podcasts regularly informing subscribers.
The Militant is Socialist Media
The Militant has been “a socialist newsweekly published in the interests of working people” since 1928. It reflects the program and activities of the Socialist Workers Party in the United States.
Socialist Media and Solidarity
Solidarity is a weekly socialist newspaper from the USA. It is edited by Martin Thomas and published by the Alliance for Workers’ Liberty (AWL). It was originally launched in the mid-1990s as a monthly titled Action for Health and Welfare by the Welfare State Network. The paper became a fortnightly and changed its name to Action for Solidarity, becoming more closely identified with the AWL, before finally shortening its name to Solidarity and adopting its current weekly frequency.
Best Socialist Magazines
Progressive and socialist magazines have long been the cornerstone of socialist media. The Monthly Review is an Independent socialist magazine that began publication in New York City in May 1949. The first issue featured the article “Why Socialism?” by Albert Einstein.
Two other good socialist magazines are New Internationalist and The Progressive Magazine. Another leftist magazine that has been around since 1954 is called simply Dissent.
Monthly Review
Monthly Review is a socialist magazine that has been published since 1949. The publication covers a wide range of topics, including economics, politics, and culture, from a Marxist perspective. Monthly Review is known for its critical analysis of capitalism and its focus on social justice issues.
New Left Review
A 160-page journal published every two months from London, New Left Review analyses world politics, the global economy, state powers and protest movements; contemporary social theory, history and philosophy; cinema, literature, heterodox art and aesthetics.
Red Pepper Magazine
Red Pepper is entirely independent and, while not rejecting party politics, seeks to help build the kind of pluralistic, dynamic movements which can fundamentally challenge our economic system, with its entrenched injustice, structures of power and oppression, and tendency towards war and environmental destruction. Published from Britain this publication is committed to free speech and the class struggle.

What is Jacobin Magazine?
Jacobin is a leading socialist magazine offering left-wing perspectives on politics, economics, and culture. Founded in 2010, it critiques capitalism, advocates for workers’ rights, and promotes socialist policies like Medicare for All, labour unionisation, and climate justice.

Socialist World
The website https://www.socialistworld.net is the official online publication of the Committee for a Workers’ International (CWI), a global revolutionary socialist organisation. It serves as their media platform, publishing news, political analysis, and commentary from a Marxist perspective. The content focuses on international class struggle, global conflicts, capitalist crises, and the activities of the socialist movement itself. Committed to internationalism it is an authoritative voice of international revolutionary socialism.
Socialist News Reddit
Dubbed simply “News for the people” r/socialistnews is a popular source of news on Marxism and socialism, imperialism, and contemporary issues such as conflict in Israel and Palestine.
