Australian Socialist Party Formed
In July 2026 delegates from among the more than 5,000 members of the newly formed Socialist Party gathered at venues across Australia for the party’s founding conference.
The conference concluded with words from the two newly elected national conveners of the Party, Rebecca Barrigos and Omar Hassan. “It isn’t up and away”, Barrigos said, “but our class has never run away from the hard things. Workers have met the horrors of capitalism with resistance and socialists have organised this fight. And it is a challenge we are all in for, and better equipped to fight, now we have our Australian Socialist Party”.
State Parties
Victorian Socialists
The Victorian Socialists were the first state to register.
Qld Socialists
The Queensland Socialists held their first Conference in 2025 and the party became officially registered in May 2026.
NSW Socialists
NSW Socialists officially registered in 2026 and will be in a position to stand candidates in the 2027 state election.
SA Socialists
The SA Socialists are a new electoral party shaking up politics as usual in South Australia. We want to rebuild a fighting socialist movement and an anti-capitalist alternative to the major parties.
